Adamawa, Anambra, Gombe record highest intercity fare

The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that Adamawa, Anambra and Gombe recorded the highest fare per intercity in November. NBS in its ‘transport fare watch; for November 2023 for intercity bus travel (state route charged per person fare), the highest fare was recorded in Adamawa, Anambra and Gombe with N8,000, followed by Abuja with N7,550.

According to the report, the lowest fare was recorded in Zamfara at N4,000, followed by Kwara at N4,500. Taraba State recorded the highest bus journey within the city (per drop constant route) in November 2023 at N1,500 followed by Bauchi at N1,450.On the other hand, Adamawa state recorded the least at N650, followed by Sokoto at N750.

Similarly, Delta recorded the highest air transport charges (for specified routes single journeys) at the rate of N87,000, followed by Taraba at N86,100. Conversely, Abia recorded the lowest fare at N70,100 charge, followed by Benue at N75,000.

Meanwhile, Lagos State had the highest motorcycle transport fare in November 2023 with N850, followed by Ondo with N762.5. The last fare was recorded in Anambra at N250, while Sokoto, Niger, Ogun, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Ondo and Edo follow at the rate of N300.

Water transport fare was highest in Bayelsa (N4,500), followed by Rivers and Delta at N4,000, while the lowest fare was recorded in Borno at N400, followed by Gombe at N500.

For zonal analysis, transport fares of bus journeys within the city recorded the highest in the North-East at N1,116.67, followed by the South-South at N1,108.33, while the South-West recorded the lowest – N985.42.

In terms of bus journey intercity, South-East had the highest fare at N6,530 followed by the North-East at N6,394.44, while North-Central recorded the lowest at N5,750.

Air transportation in November 2023, the South-South recorded the highest fare at N83,768.33, followed by the North-East with N82,300, while North-Central had the least at N77,257.14.

Commuters on a motorcycle (Okada) paid the highest fare in the South-West at N527.08 and North-East at N507.22, while the North West recorded the least at N392.86.

The South-South zone had the highest fare on water transport at N3,466.66, followed by the South-West at N1,333.33, while the North-East had the least at N750.

The report also noted that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop declined to -6.23 per cent from N1,117.3 in October to N1,047.63 in November 2023.
