The Lagos State government has contacted Kwara State for possible supply of 1,000 cattle daily to sustain the Lagosians heavy demand for the livestock produce.
The Kwara State government, on Tuesday disclosed this while turning in another set of 100 livestock farmers trained in conservation and preservation of forage crops for sustainable livestock feed production, through its Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
Also, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the buying of 500,000 cattle for the state to increase its milk production.
The Tuesday’s training of 100 livestock farmers have brought the number of trained farmers in the sector from 2025 to 10,000.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed that the Kwara State government’s renewed effort at marching up with the global trend in animal husbandry and handling has not only paid off, but has started to attract patronage that has eventually added to the state’s income.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary (PS) ministry of Livestock Development, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammed, the governor described livestock as another goldmine for the state.
He said: “Lagos State government has come here to seek a partnership for likely supply of 1,000 cattle every day.”
Muhammed explained that the training would among others convince the livestock farmers that animal husband and handling has gone miles away from them.
“Between 2025 and 2026, 10,000 farmers have been trained to support the claim that livestock farming has become a goldmine. This training is to fortify our farmers to develop trending ways of handling their produce,” he stated.
He urged the participants not only to listen to their lecturers, but to also put into practice, all what they gather to improve their handling of their cattle.
According to him: “when their animals are not well fed, the economic value will deprecate, their health will be endangered while their meat and the milk they produce will be unsellable.”
