Emirates has introduced the world’s first electrically powered premium economy seat fitted with a full-height adjustable privacy screen.
This comes as the airline moves to raise the level of comfort and personal space available to passengers in the cabin class.
The new seats, which are being installed on the airline’s newly delivered Airbus A350 aircraft, allow passengers to electronically adjust both their seating position and the privacy divider separating them from neighbouring passengers.
According to a statement by the management of the Middle East carrier, the full-height privacy screen is the first of its kind in a premium economy cabin globally, giving passengers greater control over their personal space while travelling.
The airline said the new premium economy cabin features a 2-3-2 configuration with only 28 seats, with each seat measuring 20 inches in width and offering up to 39 inches of seat pitch.
Passengers can raise or lower the privacy divider through integrated seat controls and lock it in position, allowing them to create a more secluded space for sleeping, working, dining or relaxing during the flight.
The introduction also marks Emirates’ first fully electrically powered premium economy seat, with passengers able to adjust their preferred seating position at the touch of a button through an integrated Passenger Control Unit (PCU).
The seats are also equipped with Safran Seats’ U-Dream headrest, which is designed to provide additional support for the neck and head.
Emirates is also introducing wireless charging to its premium economy cabin for the first time. Each seat comes with USB-C charging capability, as well as a tray table incorporating a dedicated phone holder.
The carrier said passengers would also have access to its ice inflight entertainment system through a 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreen.
The Airbus A350 aircraft would additionally feature enhanced external camera views, including left- and right-facing perspectives alongside the existing forward and downward views.
Emirates said its latest premium economy product was designed to bridge part of the gap between economy and business class by combining wider seats, increased legroom, enhanced privacy and upgraded passenger amenities.
