Coronation Art Gallery has drawn a link between art collecting, wealth creation and long-term value preservation as it unveiled an exhibition exploring the investment philosophy behind the collections of three prominent Nigerian collector-patrons.
The three-month exhibition, titled ‘The Value of Belief: Collectors, Conviction and the Making of Cultural Futures’, opened at Coronation Plaza, Victoria Island, Lagos, bringing together business leaders, senior executives, investors, collectors, artists and other stakeholders in the creative economy.
The exhibition features works from the private collections of Nigerian collector-patrons Kayode Adegbola, Kola Aina and Seyi Ajibola, whose collections span painting, sculpture and mixed media.
Beyond showcasing artworks, the exhibition examines the thinking behind collecting, particularly the willingness to commit capital to assets whose value may not be immediately recognised by the wider market.
Coronation Capital Managing Partner, Kayode Akindele, said the philosophy guiding serious art collectors had similarities with the principles of long-term investment, particularly the ability to identify value early and remain committed until that value matures.
He said: “The Value of Belief is ultimately about conviction: the willingness to see worth before the world agrees, to commit before there is consensus, and to hold on long enough for something lasting to take shape.”
Akindele said the exhibition reflected the same principle that underpins investment decisions, noting that the collectors featured had demonstrated a long-term commitment to Nigerian art and the ecosystem supporting it.
The exhibition is part of a three-month programme that will run through November 2026, with activities including private viewings for clients, a curated tour for university students and a closing webinar involving the curator and featured collectors.
