Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, joined businessman Aliko Dangote in New York’s Times Square as the public offering of shares in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals gained attention on the international stage.
Davido and Dangote were seen beneath a large Nasdaq digital billboard displaying the message, “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World.”
The singer shared footage of the moment on social media, showing him and Dangote gesturing towards the billboard and acknowledging people who gathered around them.
The appearance came amid the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which opened on September 14 and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.
The offer comprises 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at ₦525 each. The minimum subscription is 10 shares, valued at ₦5,250.
The company is targeting Nigerian and eligible African retail and institutional investors through the offer.
During his interaction with Dangote in New York, Davido asked the businessman why Nigerians should consider buying shares in the refinery.
Dangote said wider ownership of his businesses would help distribute wealth across Africa.
“It is very important, David, because that’s the only way to spread prosperity and wealth, you know, throughout Africa,” Dangote said.
He added that the refinery would not be the only business through which the group planned to broaden ownership. “And like what I said, this is not going to be the first and the last. We will continue to do even our fertiliser,” he said.
Dangote said the group’s broader plan was for more Africans to own stakes in its businesses.
“By the time we finish listing, every single African will own part of our businesses and they will create, you know, pool of cash,” he added.
The Times Square appearance has drawn attention because of Davido’s involvement in the promotion of an investment offering linked to one of Nigeria’s biggest industrial projects. The refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos, is designed to process crude oil into products including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and liquefied petroleum gas. The facility has been described by Dangote as a major part of the group’s industrial expansion.
The IPO is being promoted as an opportunity for broader public ownership of the refinery. The official IPO website states that the offer is open at ₦525 per share, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, and warns prospective investors to use only approved subscription channels. The offer is expected to raise about ₦2.15 trillion if fully subscribed.
Davido’s appearance with Dangote comes during the singer’s visit to New York, where several Nigerian public figures have been attending events around the United Nations General Assembly.
The Times Square display has consequently placed the refinery IPO alongside one of Nigeria’s most recognisable entertainment figures, giving the public offer visibility beyond the country’s financial market.
