Deloitte holds sustainability reporting session

Deloitte Nigeria recently hosted a breakfast session on Sustainability Reporting. The session, which was themed “Distilling Leading Practices in Sustainability Reporting”, had in attendance participants from various sectors of the Nigerian economy.

In his welcome address, the Chief Operating Officer, Deloitte West Africa, Anthony Olukoju noted that sustainability should be the paramount concern of both external and internal stakeholders. According to him, “Organizations should be aware of the need to address environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues that contribute towards sustainable development”. 

Bola Adeeko, Head, Shared Services Division, Nigerian Stock Exchange in his keynote address stated that mainstream sustainability reporting will require the effective engagement of key players, both locally and internationally. He noted that the Sustainability Disclosure Guidelines of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is positioning sustainability reporting at the mainstream within the Nigerian business ecosystem. He added that “reporting formats in smaller organisations may differ from the established practices of large companies but we must recognize and accept that we are all at different stages of the journey towards embedding sustainability into our respective organizations”.

Bernard Orji, Partner and Deloitte West Africa Consumer Industry Leader facilitated the panel discussions which included Dr. Ndidi Nnoli-Edozien, Group Chief Sustainability & Governance, Dangote Industries Limited; Olumide Orojimi, Head, Corporate Communications, Nigerian Stock Exchange; Cima Sholotan, CSR Senior Manager, IHS Nigeria Limited and Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, Head, Sustainability, Access Bank.

The Sustainability Reporting session was organised by Deloitte to share best practices with industry players. The development of sustainable organisations by improving environmental and social performance has become a global challenge for businesses around the world and must be addressed.Deloitte & Touche is the largest professional services firm in the world.
