DisCo pledges improved electricity supply in Abuja, North Central

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has pledged to invest more in electricity infrastructure as part of measures to improve electricity in the nation’s capital and North-central states, especially Kogi, Niger and Nasarawa.

The company stated this after launching three feeders to evacuate power from the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN), 2x60MVA 132/33KV GIS Transmission Station.

With the completion of construction of the three sets of 33KV feeders and the installation of auto reclosers at the Dawaki 2x60MVA and 132/33KV Transmission Station in Abuja, there are indications that more power would be dispatched from the grid to reduce over 8,000 megawatts of electricity that are stranded on the grid.

Privatised over seven years, challenges of power supply persists in Nigeria as infrastructure bottlenecks limit the progress previously envisaged in the sector.

On Monday, only about 3,500 megawatts of electricity were available to the eleven distribution companies in the sector.

AEDC’s Managing Director/CEO, Adeoye Fadeyibi, said the company would consistently invest in infrastructure to enhance service quality and customer experience.

“The commissioning of the new feeders is a strategic move to address the increased demand for electricity in these areas and ensure an efficient and reliable power supply to our customers,” Fadeyibi said in a release.

The constructed 33KV feeders are expected to de-load Gwarinpa and Life Camp 33KV feeders from AT2 Katampe as well as Dawaki and Bwari 33KV feeders from AT4 Kubwa TS.

The project, according to Fadeyibi, would improve power supply availability within Gwarinpa, Dawaki, Katampe, Life Camp, Kubwa, Bwari and environs.

These feeders will not only help de-load the existing infrastructure but also improve the overall performance of our distribution network, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power supply to our valued customers in Gwarinpa, Life Camp and other locations,” Fadeyibi said.

Chief Marketing Officer at AEDC, Donald Etim said 33KV feeders would evacuate power from the 132/33KV GIS Transmission Station Dawaki as follows:

33kv Feeder H02 will feed Gwarinpa 1st-5th Avenue, Setraco, and Citec Estate, while 33KV Feeder H03 will feed 6th & 7th Avenue, Adkan Estate, and Grand Products in Dawaki. Also covered are Urban Shelter, Charly Boy, News Engineering and environs.
