Concert for Change has allocated N55 million to five charities supporting orphans and children living with disabilities across Nigeria, marking nearly a 50 per cent increase in funding compared to last year.

Revealing this at the Green Worship 8 Benefit Concert, the Managing Trustee of Concert for Change, Wale Adenuga, said each beneficiary organisation received N11 million to support infrastructure, specialised equipment, therapy services, educational resources and other interventions for vulnerable children in their care.

The beneficiaries are Comrade David Ofoeyeno School for Special Children, Warri; Marvelous Foundation Orphans Care Centre, Minna; Super Parent Foundation, Lagos; Hope Orphanage, Akure; and the Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria, Uyo.

According to Inimfon Tommy of the Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria, Uyo, caring for children with special needs is significantly more demanding and costly than mainstream education.

He explained that the N11 million support would strengthen the organisation’s life-skills programmes, including vocational training in bead making, hairdressing, and arts and crafts, to help the children become self-reliant.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Adenike Oyetunde Lawal, said inclusion requires collaboration between government and private organisations.

She noted that one of the beneficiary organisations is registered with the state, adding that the intervention would directly impact children and families in its care.

Lawal acknowledged that while the government continues to implement policies protecting persons with disabilities, private initiatives such as Concert for Change help ease the financial burden of accessibility and inclusion efforts.

The N55 million disbursement represents a 49.66 per cent increase from the N36.75 million distributed last year, an N18.25 million rise that the organisation said reflects growing donor support and expanding.
