NGX capitalisation up by N652 billion despite bargain hunting

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) equities market extended its positive sentiments yesterday as investors’ fortune appreciated by N651.8 billion, amid bargain hunting in NGX Group Plc and some banking stocks.

At the close of transactions the market capitalisation, which stood at N157.747 trillion at the close of trading on Monday, September 14, 2026, increased to N158.399 trillion on Tuesday, representing a gain of approximately 0.41 per cent.

Similarly, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 1,005.27 points, rising from 243,299.24 points to 244,304.51 points.

The latest appreciation came as investors increased their positions in several equities, particularly NGX Group, Aradel Holdings, Sovereign Trust Insurance, Mecure Industries and International Breweries, among others.

The market’s performance marked a stronger recovery compared with Monday’s marginal 0.10 per cent gain, when the equities market added N159.82 billion to its capitalisation.

On the price movement chart, NGX Group Plc emerged the highest price gainer with of 9.95 per cent to close at N179.

The stock was closely followed by Aradel Holdings Plc, which appreciated by 9.62 per cent to close at close at N1,550.

Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc gained 9.50 per cent to close N1.96 kobo while Mecure Industries Plc advanced by 9.09 per cent to close at N4.80 kobo.

International Breweries Plc also added 8.50 per cent to close at N10.85 kobo.

Nigerian Breweries also advanced by 4.43 per cent to close at N73.10, while Oando Plc gained 3.92 per cent to close at N34.50.

Banking stocks also contributed to the positive market performance, with Zenith Bank Plc gaining 1.67 per cent to close at N128. Wema Bank rose 2.75 per cent to close N29.90 kobo while FCMB gained 0.46 per cent to close at N10.95 kobo.

UBA also appreciated by 0.46 per cent to close at N44 while AccessCorp gained 1.59 per cent to close at N28.70.

Market breadth was positive yesterday with 34 equities recording price appreciation against 26 that constituted the losers chart.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) emerged as the highest price loser, falling by 10 per cent to close at N66.60 kobo.

Transnational Express trailed with 9.93 per cent to close at N2.45 kobo while AVA Capital dropped by 9.9 per cent to close at N4.55 kobo.

The banking index moved higher from 2,546.04 to 2,548 points.

The NGX Consumer Goods Index rose from 4,038.57 to 4,081.31 points, while the Oil and Gas Index increased from 5,814.57 to 6,035.23 points.

However, the NGX Insurance Index declined from 1,053.50 to 1,051.62 points, while the NGX Industrial Index fell from 9,994.54 to 9,936.57 points.
