Six stocks on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) have recorded an average year-to-date (YTD) share price gain of 427 per cent, with their combined market capitalisation reaching N185.89 billion, reflecting strong price appreciation across the selected equities.
The stocks, Zichis Agro Allied Industries, Fortis Global Insurance, SCOA Nigeria, UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust, Union Dicon Salt and Berger Paints have emerged as the best performers as of October 9, 2026, recording gains ranging from 208 per cent to 757 per cent.
NGX data showed that Zichis Agro Allied Industries led the group with a 757 per cent gain, followed by Fortis Global Insurance with 740 per cent. SCOA Nigeria recorded a 365 per cent increase, while UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust gained 248 per cent.
Union Dicon Salt advanced by 244 per cent, while Berger Paints recorded a 208 per cent gain.
Together, the six stocks achieved a market capitalisation of N185.89 billion. UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust accounts for the largest share in market capitalisation, at N64 billion, followed by Berger Paints with N42.8 billion and Fortis Global Insurance with N30.6 billion.
SCOA Nigeria has a market capitalisation of N21.5 billion, while Zichis Agro Allied Industries stands at N20.5 billion. Union Dicon Salt has the smallest market capitalisation among the six, at N6.49 billion.
Operators said the strong performance of the six stocks comes amid a broad rally in the Nigerian equities market this year, with the NGX All-Share Index extending its gains as investors continue to seek opportunities across listed companies.
As of September 30, 2026, the index stood at 251,211.67 points, representing a year-to-date gain of 61.43 per cent, while total market capitalisation reached N163.10 trillion. The market’s performance reflects sustained buying interest in equities, although returns have varied considerably across individual stocks.
In addition, the rally is also an indication of growing investor attention to small- and medium-capitalisation stocks, some of which have delivered returns well above the broader market.
The strong price appreciation recorded by the six stocks suggests that investor interest is extending beyond the market’s heavyweight companies to smaller counters offering opportunities for significant price movements.
Reacting to the development, the President of New Dimension Shareholders Association of Nigeria, Patrick Ajudua, described the average 427 per cent share price gain recorded by the six stocks as a welcome development.
He attributed the rally partly to the government’s economic recovery efforts, which he said had helped stabilise the foreign exchange market, improve companies’ prospects for profitability and strengthen investor confidence, leading to share price appreciation.
Also speaking, the President of the Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria, Moses Igbrude, said sustained share price appreciation must be backed by good corporate performance and consistent, impressive financial results.
According to him, investors look beyond current share prices to a company’s intrinsic value and future growth potential, making it important for companies to focus on decisions that create lasting value for shareholders.
