The Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute (OOLI), in partnership with the University of Lagos (UNILAG), held a four-day intensive training programme that brought together elected student leaders from various institutions for a deeply engaging, intellectually enriching experience designed to shape a new generation of responsible, visionary, and value-driven leaders.

In his keynote address at the training programme, former President Olusegun Obasanjo identified the characteristics of a true leader, highlighting attributes such as achiever, actualiser, communicator, decision-maker, and giver.

Obasanjo further emphasised 15 core values of good leadership, including integrity, honesty, dependability, patriotism, trustworthiness, and peace, among others, enjoining participants to imbibe them.

The training featured a line-up of facilitators drawn from academia, civil society, mental health, finance, law, business leadership, and transformational leadership development, and their sessions provided practical, real-world tools for effective leadership.

While Mrs Yemi Adamolekun led a session on Responsible Leadership and Activism, the Founder of Painless Universal, UK, Anne Welsh, spoke on resilience in goal pursuit and leadership, emphasising determination, self-belief, and the power of personal adversity as a catalyst for transformational leadership.

Prof. Adewale Olawoyin (SAN) discussed the New Student Constitution and enabling laws, while Toki Mabogunje led a session on Leadership, Communication and Team Bonding.

The training combined plenary sessions, interactive engagements, emotional intelligence labs, constitutional literacy workshops, financial management training, and leadership reflections.

The institute is dedicated to nurturing a new breed of leaders equipped with moral courage, strategic insight, and transformational capacity.

Through training, research, and mentorship, OOLI continues to champion leadership development in Nigeria and beyond.
