Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for its interventions in tertiary institutions, saying its investments have strengthened infrastructure, expanded admission capacity and supported the development of universities.
Radda said Katsina State had benefited significantly from TETFund’s interventions in state-owned universities, other tertiary institutions and federal institutions located in the state.
The governor spoke with journalists on the sidelines of the 2026 TETFund Board of Trustees National Town Hall Meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
He said the fund’s interventions had helped rebuild infrastructure, improve institutional capacity and expand the scope of universities to accommodate more students.
According to him, sustained investment in tertiary education is essential to improving access to higher education and equipping institutions to respond to emerging national and global challenges.
“Katsina State has benefited greatly from the intervention of TETFund. They have done so much in the development of our state universities, state tertiary institutions, as well as federal tertiary institutions,” he said.
Radda, however, urged the fund to ensure that its support for lecturers and academic development aligns with changing global realities and Nigeria’s economic challenges.
He said the ultimate objective should be to produce graduates capable of addressing practical problems confronting the country.
“We should ensure that what they are supporting the lecturers with is in tune with the global challenges that we are facing, and it has to be along with the economic challenges the country faces, so that our graduates will be solving problems,” he said.
The governor stressed that the interventions should go beyond physical infrastructure to strengthen teaching, learning and the capacity of universities to produce graduates with relevant skills.
He expressed optimism that continued investment by TETFund would help tertiary institutions deliver quality education and contribute more effectively to national development.
TETFund provides funding support for public tertiary institutions in Nigeria, with interventions covering infrastructure, academic staff development, research and other areas aimed at improving the quality of higher education.
The 2026 National Town Hall Meeting provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss the fund’s interventions, assess their impact and identify priorities for improving tertiary education across the country.
