In a letter dated March 6, 2025, issued by the office of the Registrar and directed to the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Adelaja Odukoya, it stated that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, has approved the commencement of the implementation of the new Faculty of Communication.

Under the new Faculty, it has three departments, namely, Mass Communication, Public Relations and Advertising and Journalism, Broadcasting and Media Studies.

The programmes include B.Sc, M.Sc, PhD Mass Communication, B.Sc. Public Relations, B.Sc. Advertising, B.Sc. Journalism and B.Sc. Broadcasting.

The Head of Department (HoD), Prof. Oloruntola Sunday, in an interview, welcomed the development, noting that the programmes would kick off in October 2025.

He stressed that the unbundling was in line with the recommendations of the National Universities Commission (NUC), which recently unbundled the national curriculum for some courses in which Mass Communication was part of.

He further noted that with the development, the department would need more hands by employing new lecturers to take the new courses.

The HoD, however, assured that the department is well-equipped with the necessary facilities to ensure the smooth running of the faculty.
