The Department of Mass Communication in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka, Anambra State, has officially inducted 620 fresh students in a grand Induction and Orientation Ceremony.
The event drew prominent stakeholders, including Oscar Azolibe, Founder of Apex Tech; Professor Allen Adum, Head of the Mass Communication Department; Dr. Emeka Odogwu, Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); Dr. Nzube Ekebosi, CEO of Reliable Homes; and Peter Emeneh Esq., Deputy Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Council.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Ify Aronu, United Nations Inter-Agency Representative, emphasized the critical importance of cultivating a marketable voice alongside media proficiency. Speaking on the theme, “The Power of the Media, The Influence of Voice”, she told the inductees:
“Media amplifies. Voice influences. Media broadcasts. Voice transforms.”
Aronu reflected on her own journey, noting that while media had been evolving since her graduation 13 years ago, the real measure of influence lies in the value of one’s voice:
“Do not just aim to be heard… aim to matter. The power of media is undeniable, but the influence of voice? That begins with you. Think possible.”
She explained that the success of media platforms, both local and international, often depends on the distinctiveness and quality of the voices they carry, particularly presenters and news anchors.
