Abia poly holds convocation after 11 years, graduates 28,000
Eleven years on, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, held its special combined convocation ceremony, where about 28,000 from 2010 2021 sets graduated. At the special ceremony, outgoing governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, announced the conversion of the polytechnic to university, and a N500 million take-off grant.
The Rector, Dr. Hagler Okorie, an associate professor of law, said convocation is an integral part of academic rituals, which gives credence to the graduating students.
He said as a technology-based institution, infrastructure is critical to its smooth functioning, adding that in the quest to meet its financial needs and obligations, the management has concluded plans to establish Abia State Polytechnic Business School.
This, he said, is geared towards providing teaching and learning to Aba industrialists, businessmen, artisans and others that require certification for their trades.
He also announced a partnership with a private investor for the establishment of an international academy for Creche, Pre-Nursery and Primary Schools, and another for establishment of Abia Poly Micro-Finance Bank.
