True to their pre-tournament boast, Matured Minds Fitness Club emerged champions of the maiden edition of four team Senior’s cup football competition, beating Real Football club in a scintillating finals played at the sports ground of Centre for Management Development, Ikosi-Ketu in Lagos State.

The match which was watched by a large number of spectators, including members of El Marino’s football club, was decided on a penalty shoot- out after both teams had played 2-2 at regulation time. The host team, Matured minds Fitness club eventually carried the day 6-4 in the penalty shootout. Earlier, F2 International beat Keep Fit Sports Club 3-2 to win the third place position.

The Chairman of Matured Minds Fitness Club, Mr. Ernest Porbeni, a Corporate Executive, expressed happiness at the end of the competition and reiterated that the club was set up about three years ago to help them who are mostly corporate executives and business men to keep fit. He said that the purpose of the competition was not to produce a professional player but to keep fit and praised the participating teams, saying that the club was satisfied with their standard of play. He thanked their mentors, El Marino football club for their magnanimity and support all this while.

The Vice Chairman of Matured Minds fitness club, Mr. Emeka Chinagorom, equally expressed joy on the outcome of the tournament. According to him, ‘the result you see at the end of this tournament is an aftermath of intensive training by the members of the club’. He thanked the participating teams for taking part in the tournament and assured everyone that subsequent editions of the tournament will be an improvement of what they have done. “It has been a wonderful tournament this year. Every year we try to build on the success of the previous year,” he said.
