Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, FCA, has ordered the immediate suspension of the ongoing renovation and remodelling of Gumel General Hospital, due to unsatisfactory project execution by the contractor in failing to meet the required standards..

 

The directive followed an unscheduled midnight inspection of the facility, during which the governor conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the project’s progress and the quality of work undertaken.

 

Expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the project, Governor Namadi observed that despite the considerable time that had elapsed since the contract was awarded, physical progress remained grossly inadequate. He further noted that the standard of work executed fell significantly short of the contractual expectations and the government’s quality benchmarks.

 

The contract for the comprehensive rehabilitation and remodelling of Gumel General Hospital was awarded to Yasmeen Automobile Nigeria Limited on December 17, 2025, at a contract sum exceeding N1.3 billion, with an eight-month completion period.

 

Sources at the project site disclosed that the governor, known for his unannounced inspections of public infrastructure projects, was visibly displeased with the contractor’s performance. He subsequently directed that all ongoing works be suspended with immediate effect, pending further government’s directives.

 

The Gumel General Hospital rehabilitation forms part of the Namadi administration’s broader healthcare infrastructure renewal programme, designed to modernise and strengthen the capacity of general hospitals across Jigawa State.

 

While the state government has yet to clarify whether the contract will be terminated, reviewed, or reassigned, the governor’s intervention reinforces his administration’s commitment to strict project oversight, contractual accountability, and adherence to quality standards in the execution of public infrastructure projects.
