Parties to adopt written addresses over Itire stool

A Lagos High Court, Ikeja, has fixed November 28, 2022 for adoption of their written addresses in the suit against the Onitire of Itire, Chairman of Mushin Council and others.

A Lagos High Court, Ikeja, has fixed November 28, 2022 for adoption of their written addresses in the suit against the Onitire of Itire, Chairman of Mushin Council and others.

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro fixed the date in the suit marked ID/3669GCNW/2017 wherein the 1st plaintiff claimed that being a descendant of Odunburu ruling house, he is entitled to be considered eligible to contest for the said stool of Onitire of Itire.

Other plaintiffs are Alhaji Walim Abolaji Irawo, Chief Teslim Alani Apena, Chief Rasheed Yekinni Apena, Taiwo Ogundipe, Chief (Mrs) Afusat Williams and Chief Jimoh Amusa Irawob are suing for themselves and on behalf of Omobo branch of Odunburu ruling house of Itire.

Aside from the Mushin Council Chairman and Onitire of Itire, other defendants in the suit are Chief Adisa Olatunji, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Governor of Lagos State and the Attorney General of Lagos State.

The claimant had prayed the court for a declaration that Odunburu ruling house is made up of seven branches: Lesho, Owunro, Aina, Abija Eru, Ejolabi, Omobo, while Oluwole and Orebiyi are descendants of Omobo branch.

“A declaration that the first claimant, being a descendant of Odunburu ruling house, is entitled to be considered eligible to contest for the said stool of Onitire of Itire.

They, therefore, prayed the court for an order restraining the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th defendants from acting on public notice published on January 16, 2017, or carrying out any exercise to fill the vacant stool of Onitire, pending the determination of the suit.

The court had ordered the parties to maintain status quo pending determination of the suit. While the suit is pending, with an order to maintain the status quo, Oba Tajudeen Ishola Odubiyi, was installed as Onitire of Itire.

The claimants, therefore, threatened to file contempt proceeding against the defendants. The case has been adjourned to November 28, 2022.
