• Tasks Tinubu on education, electricity, others
For the development and progress of the nation, Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys’ Association (AGSOBA) has tasked President Bola Tinubu on quality and qualitative education, 24-hour electricity supply, and infrastructural development.
The President General of the association, Olurotimi Oduntan, who made the plea while addressing journalists on activities lined up for its 115th anniversary, said if the key development factors are addressed, the country would experience the needed change.
Oduntan who expressed hope of better times for Nigerians, said the country would be transformed in due course and those who had left in search of greener pastures would return home.
He said: “When you build a nation, three things are important: education, electricity, and infrastructure. When you have education, you have human capital. With electricity, you generate more employment and bring up industries, while infrastructure guarantees easy movement when you have good roads.
“When things are in order, ja-pa (leaving the country for good) would turn to japada (forceful return to the country), which means, those who had travelled out of the country would return.”
The association appealed to the state government to build more classrooms to accommodate more students, noting that 90 per cent of structures in the school were built by old students.
Activities lined up for the anniversary include visitation to elders, election of new executives, novelty match, project commissioning, dinner and award night, among others.
