AS part of efforts by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to ensure safety of lives and property in the state and its environs, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the state Police Command has apprehended one Oworoba Abdul Kareem, 20, alleged to be a member of a notorious cult gang called Eiye Confraternity.
Police authorities said the suspect has been threatening the peaceful atmosphere in Akala area of Mushin. The police team swooped on the area following a distress call from members of the public that some group of cultists have started their rivalry clashes in the area on September 10, at about 2:15pm. The suspect was nabbed in the neighbourhood while other members of the group fled.
According to a police source, “the suspect was apprehended though others managed to escape when some group of men suspected to be cultists engaged themselves in a free-for-all fight and in an attempt to resist arrest, they started stoning at the police’s vehicles, damaging the windscreen of the two patrol vans.”
Investigations revealed that the suspect was a member of Eiye Confraternity, one of the cult groups making life difficult for residents of Mushin, Akala, Idi-Oro and its environs.
Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Olatunji Disu, an Assistant Commissioner of police warned parents and guardians to be watchful of their wards while at tender age. He added that residents should be courageous enough to report any suspicious movement and criminals in their neighbourhood to the police, promising that the squad would act accordingly and timely.
