Ridwan emerges Fountain varsity students’ executive council president

Students of Fountain University, Osogbo, have elected Garuba Ridwan and Popoola Zaynab, as the president and vice president of Students Central Executive Council (SCEC) respectively.

Students of Fountain University, Osogbo, have elected Garuba Ridwan and Popoola Zaynab, as the president and vice president of Students Central Executive Council (SCEC) respectively.

The students, through an open ballot exercise, elected their representatives for the first time since the inception of the university.

The voting which, started at 9:00 a.m. in all the four polling units outside the hostels, ended at 10:30 a.m.
The exercise, which is the maiden edition, came after the agitation by the students for franchise, which the university obliged, thereby abolishing the monotonous structure of appointing the overall best students to occupy executive positions of SCEC since its establishment.

The criteria for eligibility of the candidates are academic excellence, good conduct and absence of criminal records as verified by the school’s security unit.

Candidates for the elections were; Garuba Ridwan and his Vice, Popoola Zainab against Ajibade Muhideen and his Vice, Abdul Salaam Mutiat, for presidency.

Olayioye Fathiat contested unopposed for post of General Secretary, leaving the seat of the Assistant General Secretary vacant; Dokubo-Asari Nene and Ogun Samuel contended for the positions of the social secretary; for the office of the Public Relation Officer. Agbomobini Abdul-Kareem, contested unopposed; Alashe Iswat and Ogunjobi Azeezat, vied for the position of a Treasurer.

Sallee Tasleem and Taiwo Sefiat contended unopposed for the post of a financial secretary and the auditor general, respectively. Shittu Khadijat was in a face-off with Ayorinde Muhibat for the office of the Welfare Secretary. However, no candidate vied for the position of the Sports Secretary.
