Apple To Release Will Smith’s First Film “Emancipation” Since Oscars
Apple will finally release Will Smith’s next major film, “Emancipation,” this December after holding it in limbo in the wake of his Academy Awards slap of Chris Rock. (Oct. 4)
Directed and produced by Antoine Fuqua, the film (Training Day). Since slapping Chris Rock in front of a live audience at the 94th Academy Awards, the drama marks the 54-year-old actor’s debut feature.
Smith plays Peter, a man who escapes slavery and embarks on a search for freedom, in this American Civil War-era drama set in Louisiana.
Peter’s opening line in the trailer is, “I heard it myself—slaves are free.”
Following the “sounds of Abraham [Lincolncannons,” ]’ as he then sets out on a victorious expedition.
Emancipation is Will Smith‘s first film since the Oscars controversy with Chris Rock.
