Veteran Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola has announced her return to acting, months after losing her only child, Ayomikun Omobolanle.
The actress, who is married to popular comic actor Sunday Omobolanle, known as Papi Luwe, announced her return in a post on her Instagram page, expressing gratitude to her fans and colleagues for their prayers and support.
The tragedy occurred in September 2025, when Ogunmola and her husband lost their son in Ibadan after what the family described as a brief illness. The news shocked many of their colleagues and fans nationwide.
Speaking through the family’s spokesperson, Yemi Amodu, the family dismissed rumours circulating online about the cause of Ayomikun’s death.
He said, “We wish to clearly state that Ayomikun did not pass away as a result of any bathroom accident, contrary to false reports being circulated online. He was briefly unwell, and despite the best efforts of the medical team, he peacefully answered the call of his Creator.”
Following weeks of mourning, Ogunmola took to Instagram on Saturday to share a short video, thanking those who stood by her during the difficult period.
She wrote, “A new month, a new dawn. The past months have been heavy, but your love, prayers, and condolences have carried me through the storm. Today I rise, stronger, grateful, and ready to embrace my passion again. The screens have missed me… and I’m back, doing what I love most.”
After the news of Ayomikun’s death broke, several Nollywood stars, including Biola Adebayo, Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Yekini (Itele D Icon), Bukola Adeeyo, and Faithia Williams, took to social media to express their condolences.
Adebayo, who first announced the news, described it as “devastating and heartbreaking.”
Femi Adebayo also wrote, “Life has written a line too heavy for the stage. Today, we mourn with our dear elder, a thespian whose heart now carries the weight no mother should bear. My thoughts and prayers are with you, ma. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
Actor Ibrahim Yekini described the loss as painful, adding, “A mother’s pain in losing her child is beyond words. Olorun ma fi Ina Omo Jo Gbogbo Abiamo. Vanity upon vanity.”
Other actors such as Dele Odule, Ronke Odusanya, Fausat Balogun, Bimbo Oshin, Ebun Oloyede, Olaiya Igwe, and Fali Werepe were among those who visited the couple’s home in Ibadan to sympathise with the family.
Ogunmola, the daughter of the late theatre legend Kola Ogunmola, said she is ready to return to work, adding that the support she received from fans and colleagues helped her regain her strength.
