Popular Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed that her passion for the compelling story of Something About The Briggs inspired her return to the Nigerian film industry after more than a decade away.

The 57-year-old actress disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Guardian Life at a private press screening of the film in Lagos.

Speaking about her decision to take on the role of Bimbo’s mum, she said, “When I read the script, I found it so interesting and thought, ‘Oh, this is crazy!’ I asked myself, ‘Is this how I want to make a comeback?’ But then I decided, ‘Let’s go and do it.’”

This isn’t the first time Wright has stepped back into Nollywood after her break. She previously returned in April 2024 with Red Circle, but Something About The Briggs marks a deeper and more intentional reintegration into the industry.

Recalling her experience on set, she said, “There were so many people on set that I hadn’t seen in over 10 years. It was such a thrilling experience for me to come back home and act in this movie.”

Known for her thoughtful approach to roles, Wright highlighted the importance of the script in her decision-making.

“I’ve always prioritised the story over everything else, even beyond the money. If I feel connected to the story, I’m ready to take on the role,” she explained.

Bukky Wright’s performance in Something About The Briggs not only marks her return but also reaffirms her place as one of Nollywood’s most respected talents.

Directed by Bukola Ogunsola, Something About The Briggs boasts an ensemble cast featuring Daniel Etim Effiong, Ariyiike Dimples, Norbert Young, Gloria Young, Rita Dominic, Iyabo Ojo, Stan Nze, Kenneth Okolie, Kalu Ikeagwu, Linda Ejiofor, Kanaga Jnr, Elma Mbadiwe, Simi Drey, Tubosun Aiyedehin, Zack Orji, and Liz Benson-Ameye.
