Nigerian comedian and skit maker Olamide Kamo, popularly known as Kamo State, and his wife, Esther Olamide, have named their newborn daughter after Nollywood star Funke Akindele.
The couple, who welcomed their baby girl in April, hosted the naming ceremony on Tuesday in Lagos.
Kamo shared joyful moments from the event on Instagram, captioning the post, “So blessed to name our child today! Sonia Olufunke Oluwatamilore.”
This gesture came after Kamo publicly hailed Akindele as “an angel in human form” for standing by his family throughout the journey.
He revealed that the filmmaker even offered to fly his wife abroad when she first learned about the pregnancy. “I’ll never forget the nights you spent by my side at the hospital… Even when I told you about the pregnancy late, you were ready to fly my wife to the US for the baby’s birth,” Kamo shared.
Kamo praised Akindele for securing one of Lagos’s best doctors and covering all medical bills. Even while on a family trip to Dubai, he said, Akindele ensured he stayed with his wife, frequently calling to check on them.
“You told your driver and security to follow us to the hospital even if we called at midnight, ensuring we were safe and sound,” he added.
According to Kamo, Funke constantly prayed for his wife and pushed him to pray as well. She also generously sponsored the entire naming ceremony, from food to outfits.
“Your generosity knows no bounds, and your love is a gift I cherish every single day,” Kamo wrote in his tribute.
“I pray that God blesses you abundantly… I’ll spend a lifetime trying to repay the kindness you’ve shown me.”
Funke Akindele, known for her blockbuster films and mentorship of younger talents, has long been celebrated for her behind-the-scenes acts of kindness in the entertainment industry.
