American rapper, Onika Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj has expressed gratitude after the United States President, Donald Trump made a strong statement condemning the killings of Christians in Nigeria.

Trump, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), described the situation as a “mass slaughter,” saying radical Islamists were responsible for the deaths of thousands of Christians.deaths of thousands of Christians. He announced that he was designating Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” and called on members of Congress to take immediate action.

The tweet read, ‘Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” — but that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide), something must be done!’

He added, ‘I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter and report back to me. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing and able to save our great Christian population around the world.’

Nicki Minaj, who shared a screenshot of the post on her X(formerly twitter ) page reacted with an emotional message about religious freedom and the need for compassion across faiths.

“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” she wrote. “We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”

The rapper continued, “Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror, and it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the President and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”

Her post has since sparked wide conversation on social media, with many users commending her for speaking out on an issue often overlooked by global celebrities. Some fans from Nigeria also took to the comment section to thank her for shedding light on the killings.

Others, however, questioned the authenticity of Trump’s tweet, as there has been no official confirmation from his verified accounts or his spokesperson.

Despite the uncertainty, the discussion has reignited global attention on the long running crisis between farmers and herders in parts of Nigeria, which has often taken on religious undertones.

For years, international organisations such as Amnesty International and Open Doors have reported attacks on Christian communities in northern and central Nigeria, urging the government to act more decisively to protect vulnerable groups.

Although Nicki Minaj’s post was focused on faith, but it also serves as a reminder of the power of celebrity voices in drawing attention to humanitarian issues.
