Popular singer, songwriter, and record producer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has explained why he chose Adamawa State as the second stop on his ongoing 5ive Alive Tour, following his performance in Akwa Ibom on Sunday.

During his visit to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola on Tuesday, the singer said his decision to perform in the state was influenced by its peace, security and capacity to host large-scale events.

Davido said, “I have been wanting to see you a couple of times, but we are not in the same department,” he joked, smiling.

“My uncle, the governor, has always spoken about me coming to Adamawa to see how God has blessed the state. I just finished my shows in America, where I performed in almost ten world-class arenas. While we were coming to Africa, we were looking for a place in Nigeria that could handle us production-wise and security-wise, and Adamawa came out on top. This is my second show in Nigeria.”

After the meeting, Governor Fintiri commended Davido for including Adamawa in his Nigerian tour, describing the visit as a reflection of the state’s peace and growing development.

In a post shared on his official X handle, Fintiri wrote, “It was a pleasure to welcome the global star, @Davido, to the Government House, Yola. We are particularly glad he chose Adamawa as a key stop on his five-state tour. His presence underscores our progress and our commitment to security and urban renewal.”

Later that night, thousands of fans filled Mahmud Ribadu Square, dancing and cheering as Davido performed several of his hit songs, including Feel, Unavailable and Over Dem.

One of the highlights of the evening came when the singer brought a lucky fan on stage to perform With You alongside him. The gesture drew loud cheers and flashing lights from the crowd.

Also present at the earlier reception was the state Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, who described Davido’s visit as a boost to youth creativity, tourism and local entertainment.

The Yola concert marked the second Nigerian stop of Davido’s 5ive Tour, which began in Akwa Ibom earlier in October. The tour will continue across other major cities, including Enugu on November 1, Ibadan on November 9, Abuja on December 14 and will climax with a grand festival concert in Lagos on December 25.
