Sanya completes attempt to break world record for largest sandal

Nigerian-born British shoe designer, Liz Sanya, has completed her attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the world’s largest sandal.
The project, which kicked off on January 2, 2025, wrapped up three days later, on January 4.
It unfolded at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos.

Sanya’s massive pink clog measures 3.156 metres (10ft 4.2 inches) in width and 8.147 metres (26ft 8.8 inches) in length.
The 72-hour feat attracted a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, including music stars Pheelz, Mayorkun, and Korty EO, as well as renowned producer P. Prime.
The atmosphere was electric, as fans and celebrities alike gathered to witness history in the making.
For context, the current record, held by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo, stands at 7.45 metres (24ft 5.31 inches) in length and 3.09 metres (10ft 1.65 inches) in width.
Sanya’s attempt pushes these limits and aims to bring the title to Nigerian soil.
Speaking after the event, the designer, who was born in Ibadan and inspired by her time in Lagos, couldn’t hide her emotions. “I’ll never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision,” she said.
