Accident Caution sign

A tragic lone accident has claimed the lives of 11 persons after a vehicle plunged off Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos route in Ogun State.

The fatal crash occurred on the night of Sunday, May 10, 2026, according to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Odunsi Afolabi, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, said the FRSC rescue team from the Itori Unit Command responded swiftly to the scene following reports of the accident.

The lone crash involved a gold Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE722KJ. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping all occupants inside after the doors locked on impact.

“All 11 people on board, comprising 10 adult males and one adult female, lost their lives in the crash,” the statement said.

FRSC officials, assisted by members of the local community, had to dismantle parts of the vehicle to recover the victims’ bodies.

The deceased were evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC identified overloading as the likely cause of the late night accident.

Reacting to the incident, Ogunjobi urged motorists plying the Abeokuta-Lagos highway to exercise caution, particularly during night travel.

He also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased victims
