2027: Senatorial Aspirant drags NDC to court, demands refund of N20M, others

A lawyer and former Senatorial Aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 elections in Enugu West, Enugu State, Ogochukwu Onyema has dragged the party to court seeking the refund of about N20 million through alleged misrepresentation and undue influence.

Onyema, in a suit he filed at the Enugu State High Court with No: E/169/2026; in which he joined the National leader of the party, Seriaki Dickson, Moses Zunoghe, two others as well as First City Monument Bank is also asking for another N5 million as special damages from the party.

Onyema, who had since become the Senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu West after he failed in the bid to get same from the NDC, is asking for the freezing of account No: 1046691859 belonging to the party FCMB, pending the determination of the Substantive Suit.

He has asked for an order of the court for the defendants to return the N20,000,000:00 from the account No: 1046691859 belonging to the party at FCMB or from any other source, to the originating account from where it was transferred to his Acct. No 1023323381, UBA, OAU Onyema & Co domiciled at Ogbete Main Market Enugu, Enugu State Nigeria.

Onyema is also requesting N200 million against the defendants jointly and severally, for the psychological trauma, embarrassment, hardship, discomfiture and inconvenience, occasioned by their conduct.He is asking the court to award an interest of 10% per month accruable on the Sum of N20 Million with effect from 2nd June, 2026 when the Demand Letter was acknowledged by the party till same is paid in full; and on any other judgment sum with effect from the date of judgment, until the judgment said sum is liquidated.

Details of the trial dates would soon be unveiled. But the Court had adjourned tentatively to Thursday 2nd day of July 2026 for returns on Assignment of Court and date.

Onyema, it could be recalled had raised an alarm that he had been “duped” after allegedly paying several sums tagged as “Party support” as a condition for the ticket and being denied the Senatorial ticket of the party. He had written the party to refund the said sum paid but having waited to no avail for the refund, he has resorted to the court to retrieve his money.
