The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Engineer Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has extended congratulations and counsel to the newly installed Oniroko of Ikolaje, Oba Sunday Adekanmbi, urging him to combine the wisdom of the ancestors with modern leadership vision to foster peace and development in his domain.
The congratulatory message, conveyed through the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, commended the new monarch for ascending the throne at a historic moment for the community and called on him to steer the people towards unity, progress, and prosperity.
“Your Majesty, it is my esteemed privilege to offer my warmest congratulations on your ascension to the throne,” the Alaafin’s message read. “This historic moment heralds a new era of prosperity, justice, and peace under your leadership. A new chapter begins for our kingdom, anchored in the strength of our traditions and the promise of your leadership. May your reign inspire greatness, unity, and hope in every corner of the realm.”
The Alaafin further likened the reign of Oba Adekanmbi to the morning sun, saying it should consistently bring light, progress, and peace to the land. “Your tenacity and dedication have earned you this throne. We look forward to a transformative era where your wise counsel brings prosperity to your people,” the message added.
In a traditional Yoruba blessing, the Alaafin prayed for longevity, stability, and prosperity for the new monarch, declaring: “Ki ade pe lori, ki bata pe lese, ki irukere Oba di okinni”, meaning, may the crown remain long on your head, may your sandals last long on your feet, and may the king’s flywheel turn smoothly.
The congratulatory message underscored the deep historical connection between the people of Yewaland, including Ilaro, Imeko, Aiyetoro, Imasai, Igbogila, Ipokia, Alari, Oyotedo, Idiroko, and surrounding towns, and the ancient city of Oyo-Ile. The Alaafin reminded the new Oniroko that the community is enriched by generations of Oyo settlers who have maintained cultural ties across the region.
Oba Adekanmbi, who hails from the Ikolaje ruling lineage, becomes the custodian of traditions and the representative of the people’s collective aspirations in Ogun State. The Alaafin’s message emphasised that visionary leadership rooted in both culture and contemporary governance is essential to addressing developmental challenges and ensuring social harmony in the area.
The Alaafin added, “All hail the King! May your reign be long, fruitful, and peaceful. May God grant you the wisdom of Solomon to rule with compassion and justice.”
