The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has re-appointed Lagos’ lawyer and seasoned accountant, Banji Alabi, as the Chairman of the Governing Council, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), Owo.

Akeredolu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olabode Richard Olatunde, applauded the achievements of the Alabi-led previous Council in the institution, especially in the construction of facilities that would aid and ease teaching-learning for both staff and students.

The governor further charged Alabi not rest on his oars in bringing new
development to the polytechnic, attracting funds and projects to the school from members of the Alumni Association, friends of the institutions as well as friends of the Chairman and Council members.

The lawyer-accountant who is a major player in the oil and gas sector, worked for many years as an accountant with Chevron before going into private business. He was the first alumnus of the RUGIPO to be appointed Council chairman and the first Council chairman to be re-appointed in the history of the institution.

Alabi is the convener and National Chairman of Ondo Eminent Persons Group, made up of some indigenes all over the country and in the Diaspora, with passion for the development of the state and lifting up of the less-privilege. Attesting to Alabi’s sterling leadership quality, an octogenarian and member of the former Council, Chief Andrew Aroloye said, “we were led (in the Council) by an Israeli Army General.”

Speaking shortly after his re-appointment, Alabi expressed gratitude to Governor Akeredolu for providing the resources the previous Council used to record the legacy achievements that dots the entire school. He thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in him and vowed not to disappoint.

Other members of the new Council are, Prof (Mrs) Olubunmi Omoniyi, wife of late Ondo State governor, Mrs Olufunke Agagu; Mrs Morenije Alaka; Mrs Bosede Osunmakinwa; Evangelist Asagunla Olumuyiwa; state chairman of the ruling party, Ade Adetimehin; Femi James and Febi Adeyemi.
