A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday remanded a former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of his bail application over an alleged N15 million unfair advantage.
Umar was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday on a four-count charge bordering on conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as the chairman of the CCT.
However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges, and afterwards, the prosecuting counsel, Christopher Mshelia, prayed the court to set a day for the commencement of the trial, while the defendant is remanded at the correctional centre.
Meanwhile, counsel to the defendant, Sunday Edward, informed the court of his client’s bail application, which the prosecution counsel said they had just received and would need time to respond to.
Consequently, Justice Peter Kekemeke adjourned the matter till July 15, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
