The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has named the President and Founder of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, an honorary member in recognition of his contributions to higher education and Medical Laboratory Science.

The association said Gwarzo was nominated for the recognition by its National Executive Council, citing his support for healthcare training and the development of Medical Laboratory Science education in Nigeria and other parts of Africa.

In a letter dated September 4, 2026, AMLSN highlighted Gwarzo’s role in supporting the establishment and development of Medical Laboratory Science programmes at Maryam Abacha American University of Niger and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano.

The association also cited his support for the Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLSD) programme, which it described as an initiative intended to strengthen professional capacity, research, innovation and leadership in the field.

According to AMLSN, Gwarzo’s investment in health sciences education has helped expand opportunities for the training of medical laboratory scientists and other healthcare professionals.

The association said his formal investiture as an honorary member would take place during its 61st Annual Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled for November 4 to 8, 2026, in Minna, Niger State.

National President of AMLSN, Dr Casmir Ifeanyi, congratulated Gwarzo on the recognition and commended his support for the development of the Medical Laboratory Science profession in Nigeria.

Gwarzo is the founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, which includes higher education institutions in Nigeria and Niger Republic.
