The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a monarch (names withheld) and two others for allegedly masterminding the destruction of a police station at Mkpunando community in Anambra East Local Council of the state.

The arrest followed a distress message from the traditional ruler of Mkpunando, Igwe Alex Edozieuno, to Governor Willie Obiano and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Okaula, to save the community from the hands of its neighbours.

In the petition made available to newsmen yesterday in Awka, Igwe Edozieuno alleged that about 15 persons last week invaded his community where they demolished a police station being built by the community.

“Sir, it is with heavy heart and helplessness that I and on behalf of the entire Mkpunando community write this petition to you, to urgently come to our aid before the newly recognised tyrant (names withheld) drags us into anarchy.”

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Princess Nkeiruka Nwode, said some persons had been picked in respect of the case, but could not confirm the arrest of the traditional ruler.

“Investigation is in top gear. I can tell you that two or three persons have been arrested over the matter,” she stated, adding that the force had gathered reliable information about those behind the dastardly act.
