Archbishop Martins urges govts to support challenged persons

Blind School solicits government, private sector’s support

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, has appealed to the government at all levels to support the physically-challenged persons in society.

He said they should not be seen as people who could never do well in future, but help to boost their efficiency and productivity in life.

Martins, who spoke in Lagos during the Christmas Carol and Drama organised for the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted Children to mark the end of their 2020/2021 academic session, stated that regardless of their situation, Nigerians should see them as people who could add value to the society and also make the country better if they are adequately supported and given the basic education.

The Archbishop, who was represented at the event by Rev. Fr. Paul Ariole, cited the Nigerian musician, songwriter and producer, Cobhams Asuquo, who is making waves in the music industry.

SIMILARLY, the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted Children has sought the support of governments and private organisations for smooth running of the school, improved educational status and enabling them develop their skills.

Principal of the school, Onyeneri, who gave the charge during the school’s Christmas party and launch of 2022 calendar in Lagos, said: “The school is facing some challenges of funding for smooth running of the school as donations do not come regularly as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. We really solicit help from governments, churches, schools, individuals and corporate organisations to support the institution.”
