The African Women on Board (AWB) will tomorrow, November 26, 2021, unveil the organisation’s new global safety in the workplace initiative, containing the AWB safety in the workplace whitepaper and strategy guide.

Staged in partnership with the Faculty of Law of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Association of Company Secretaries and Legal Advisers (ACSLA), and leading law firms and private sector organisations, the event will feature high-profile speakers, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), UNILAG, Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa; United States (U.S.) Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard; Chairman, MTN Nigeria, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe and Chairman, NESG, Mr. Asue Ighodalo.

Founder and Co-chair of AWB, Nkiru Balonwu, said: “Most adults spend most of their waking lives at work, but for women in particular, these environments often become challenging ones. Issues such as bullying, sexual harassment, and others have not gone away and worse still – if left unchecked – such can fuel cultures that end up facilitating gender-based violence (GBV).”

Yinka Edu of Udoma Udoma and Bello Osagie commended the timing of the initiative, which her organisation is pleased to support: saying: “It is significant that AWB is leading the response to GBV during the commemoration of this year’s 16 Days of Activism against GBV, which has the important theme, End Femicide.”

AWB is a Nigerian-founded global non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the cause of African and Diaspora women around the world.
