Buhari: Northwest governors declare Tuesday public holiday

The Northwest Governors Forum (NGF) has unanimously declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in all Northwest states to honor the memory of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The NGF declared the public holiday on Monday in a circular signed by Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State who also doubles as the Chairman of the forum.

“The Northwest Governors Forum receives with shock and deep sorrow the news of the passing of our beloved former President, General Muhammadu Buhari, who breathed his last, yesterday at a hospital in the United Kingdom,” the statement read.

“On behalf of the Northwest Governors Forum and the entire people of the Northwest region, I extend our heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, immediate family of the late President, the Government and people of Katsina State, and indeed all Nigerians who mourn this irreplaceable loss.

“The Northwest Governors Forum has unanimously agreed to declare Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, as a public holiday in all Northwest states as a mark of honour and respect for our departed elder statesman.”

This gesture, according to Governor Radda, reflects the deep reverence the nation holds for a man who dedicated his entire life to serving Nigeria and humanity.

He said the late former President Buhari was “our father, our leader, and the pride of the Northwest region. He lived a life of service, integrity, and sacrifice for the betterment of Nigeria.

“I hereby announce that the remains of the late former President will arrive in Katsina tomorrow, Tuesday, at approximately 12:00 PM, and the burial ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 PM. We call on all Nigerians to join us in prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.

“May Allah (SWT) grant him Aljanah Firdaus and give his family, friends, and all Nigerians the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
