Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has tasked citizens on peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance for economic growth.

While felicitating with Muslims, yesterday, in Damaturu on the success of the Ramadan fast in the state.

According to him, the Ramadan period has inculcated the virtues of patience, devotion, humility and forgiveness in Muslim faithful for peace and development, noting: “Without peace, there could be no development at the state and national levels.”

Buni stated that the Zakatul Fitr mandated the Muslim community to provide food items to the needy at the end of Ramadan.

“This will give them a sense of belonging during the two-day Eid el-Fitr celebration,” he said, adding that it could ensure the return of peace and economic prosperity in the country.

He also urged the people to continue to support policies and programmes of government, which is committed in improving people’s living conditions.

“We’ve provided infrastructure in the housing, health and education sectors of the economy,“ he said.

Charging the residents to be security-conscious in their various communities, he said: “You should report suspicious movements and objects in your communities to security agencies for prompt action.”

The governor charged the people to be law-abiding, particularly during the coming general elections.

Peace and religious tolerance are inevitable for the successful conduct of the general elections, he said.
