Qafilah Environmental Protection Initiative (QEPI), under the leadership of Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Maqary, has flagged off planting of thousands of trees in about 12 Northern states to reduce the impact of climate change.

 

The exercise which was performed in Yuli community, Bauchi on Friday was part of its 2026 Qafilah Environment Day activities.

 

The Organisation planted rees at Yuli Junior Secondary School and its surroundings. In addition, economic tree seedlings such as moringa, mango, and date palm were distributed to women to support their livelihoods and improve household incomes.

 

In his opening remarks, the Coordinator of the Initiative, Engr. Musa Muhammad, stated that the objectives of the tree-planting exercise are to seek reward from Almighty Allah, contribute to the fight against desertification and the adverse effects of climate change affecting Northern Nigeria, and promote climate-smart practices that enhance environmental sustainability.

 

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Bauchi Branch of Qafilatul Mahabbah Islamic Foundation, Malam Jibril Halliru Badamasi, urged the beneficiaries to nurture and protect the trees. He assured them that more trees would be provided in the future if they demonstrated commitment to properly managing the ones already distributed.

 

The Village Head of Yuli, represented by the Sarkin Kwari, Malam Zakariya Ya’u, expressed appreciation to Qafilah and its founder for its generosity in planting and donating a large number of economic trees to the community. He assured the Initiative of the community’s commitment to protecting and maintaining all the trees planted.

 

Similarly, the Vice Principal of Yuli Junior Secondary School, Malam Sulaiman Zakariya, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school’s management. He also pledged to establish a students’ green club that would be responsible for nurturing and protecting the trees planted within the school premises.

 

The Director of Forestry, Bauchi State Ministry of Environment; represented Deputy Director, Mr. Mahmud Mohammed who talks about climate change, its impact and mitigation/adaptation strategies.
