…Congratulates Tony Momoh, Prof. Asiwaju at 80
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent felicitations to a former minister of Information and Culture, Prince Tony Momoh, and foremost historian and educationist, Prof. Anthony Ijaola Asiwaju, who turn 80 today.
The President also joined the media industry in celebrating Momoh’s contribution to the growth of journalism in Nigeria, particularly his visionary role of advocating integration of communication strategies in development plans and implementations.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, yesterday, Buhari extolled Momoh’s courage in delving into politics and providing strong leadership as Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and serving earlier as the Chairman of Media and Publicity for the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) campaign organisation for many years.
He said his sacrifice for growth of democracy and journalism in Nigeria would be remembered by posterity, encouraging him to always stick to the progressive ideals that have brought him recognition and encomiums, and continue to inspire younger leaders in same path.
On Asiwaju, the President joined the academia in celebrating the foremost historian and educationist, in another statement by Adesina, congratulating him for the numerous recognitions and awards he had secured, following his research works on Nigeria, West Africa and Africa.
Buhari acknowledged that such researches had enriched knowledge, deepened understanding and widened the scope of scholarship on cultures and Africa’s search for identity and development, lauding the historian for maintaining a strong relationship with his roots, after conquering many odds to acquire good education.
This, he said, the historian demonstrated by working diligently to provide ladders of opportunities for many underprivileged people to attain great heights through knowledge, commending his patriotism and contribution to national development, especially his willingness to provide wise counsel to governments and institutions when called upon.
Buhari prayed to God to grant them longer life, good health, joy and strength to keep on inspiring generations of nation builders.
