Court adjourns Ikorodu chieftaincy dispute to Feb 2025
The Ikorodu High Court, Lagos has adjourned till February 26, 2025, to hear two applications in a suit concerning the Regun Chieftaincy stool in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The suit, marked IKD/87380CM/2022, was filed in 2022 by two claimants, Chief Kameeel Adisa Dada and Hon. Gbenga Oshin.
The Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotebi, and one Alhaji Jamiu Shittu are the first and second of three defendants.
During the latest round of proceedings on December 12, 2024, before another judge Justice M.I. Oshodi, Yemi Okewoye appeared for the claimants while Abdullahi Ademoyin was for the defendant.
Okewoye said: “The claimants have a pending application before the court dated November 27, 2024. I filed and served on the same day. It is for the claimants to amend their statement of claim. We have since served on the defendant, if it pleases the court, we are set to move the application.”
But Ademoyin asked for more time.
He said: “We have been served, however, we are still within time to respond. In addition, we were served with a further affidavit this morning and my principal informed me that he intends to study it. It is the 6th day.”
Opposing him, Okewoye expressed surprise at the defence counsel’s position.

He responded: “My lord, today is the 7th day, we are surprised with the manner of practice, it is a simple application to amend our processes and the defendant had all the time to respond and they refused to.
“In this circumstance, we shall be asking for a day to come and seek to move the application.
“We also have a form 49, pending before the court. We would appreciate a date to move the applications.
Granting Okewoye’s prayer in a bench ruling, Justice Oshodi held: “The case is adjourned to February 26, 2025 for hearing of both applications.”

The same judge had on July 8, 2022 granted an interlocutory injunction recognising Chief Kameel Dada as the Regun of Ikorodu and restraining Shittu from holding himself out as the Head of the Regun Family.
