The Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, Prof. Timothy Anake, has praised the Federal Government for approving establishment of 11 new private universities.

Anake made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota.

“Approval of more private universities by the Federal Government is a welcome development as it will make more people to have access to university education,” he said.

He advised the proprietors of the universities to ensure adequate funding of the institutions for quality education.

Anake aappealed to the National Universities Commission to ensure that the new universities would operate in line with international standards.

NAN reports that the Minister of Education, Dr Morufu Alausa, had, after a Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday in Abuja, said that the government had granted provisional licences for 11 private universities.

He listed the universities to include New City University, Ayetoro Ogun; University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State; Eranova University, Mabushi; Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun; and Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara.

The others are: Southern Atlantic University Uyo; Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara; Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun; Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City; Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos State; and Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State.
