Civil rights group, Rivers Peace Initiative(RPI), has condemned recent attacks on campaign trains of some frontline governorship candidates in the state.

The group condemned the destruction of All Progressives Congress (APC’s) rally at Rumuwoji community in Port Harcourt Council and the Accord rally in Igbo-Etche in Etche Council of the state.

Convener of the group, Obinna Ebogidi, described the trend as “shameful,” while bemoaning the negative effect it has on the state.

“We want to express our very strong displeasure and disappointment over recent attacks on the campaign trains of some frontline governorship candidates in Rivers State.

“It is heartbreaking that whenever we are headed for the general elections, this state would often be on the front burner, not for good reasons but for damaging and damning reports. Rivers State has become a household name for all manner of electoral violence, hate speeches, and attacks on the innocent electorate,” he stressed.

He urged the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, to use the 2023 general elections to leave a lasting legacy of conducting freest elections in the state.
