Dangote Group prosecutes 140 drivers over illegal haulage
The Patrol and Monitoring Unit of Dangote Cement Company, has prosecuted over 140 truck drivers with the company over alleged haulage of products not belonging to the company and reckless driving on the highway.
Worried by the numerous cases of accidents and lost of innocent lives due to reckless driving, which have led to payment of compensations in millions of Naira, the President of Dongote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dongote, had inaugurated a national patrol team to reverse the trend in July.
Another reason for the inauguration of the patrol team was to check theft of the company’s properties, illegal haulages, picking of passengers and possible diversion of company trucks and products to unauthorized destinations.
The head of the company’s Patrol and Monitoring Unit, Abdullahi Magaji, yesterday told journalists that 70 suspected drivers and their illegal customers have since been charged to court for prosecution.
He said the patrol team was mandated by the company management to monitor the activities of its truck drivers and check mate all illegal activities.
Magaji explained further that many of the defaulting drivers had formed the habit of hauling products other than the company’s goods for personal gains.
