To cut its overhead, the Delta State government is to build a new N1 billion ultra-modern central secretariat complex in Asaba, the state capital.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said yesterday in Asaba that the facility would be sited in between the two existing secretariats in the state capital.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, last month, during the presentation of the 2017 budget to the House of Assembly dropped the hint.

Ukah lamented that 25 years after the creation of the state, government agencies were still operating from rented apartments, pledging that the proposed complex would accommodate these affected ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

Besides enhancing government activities, the new facility, the commissioner noted, would also save the state of millions of naira being spent on rents.

Ukah added that government had approved the upward review of the contract sum for the completion of the Faculty of Law complex of the Oleh campus of the state university in readiness for its accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
