A lecturer at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Lagos, Professor Leke Oduwaye has argued that urbanisation is critical in building inclusive and sustainable nation.

Addressing journalists on the forthcoming conference on ‘Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’, he noted that if Nigeria could capture the role of cities in development there would be speedy growth and development.

“We just completed a report on mega cities in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) sent topics on megacities in Nigeria in 2050, the university then formed a committee and I was Chairman.

We sated that for Nigeria to develop, we must urbanise because of the advantages of urbanisation, that is where we have the talent, wealth and basic infrastructure. So, it is critical unlike our own way of thinking.”
