DSS seeks stiffer penalties for convicted abductors of Oriire teachers, pupils

Department of State Services (DSS) officers

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in Oriire Local Council of Oyo State.

The three abductors include Abdulrazak Umar (a,k.a. Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid), Yinusa Musa (a.k.a. Yunusa Bin Musa) and Shamu Adamu Sani (a.k.a. Abu Itisar).

They were convicted and sentenced yesterday by Justice Salim Ibrahim shortly after pleading guilty to two out of the 10 counts on which they were arraigned.

HOWEVER, the Department of State Services (DSS) has said that it will appeal the life imprisonment of the three men.

The DSS, which stated that it was not satisfied with the verdict, said that the sentencing is not commensurate with the crimes committed in Oriire, citing the beheading of two teachers by members of the terrorist organisation involved in the abduction.
