The Delsu Medical School Alumni Association (DUMSAA), under the leadership of its President, Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu, has congratulated Professor Ejiroghene Martha Umuerri on her historic emergence as Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka.

Professor Umuerri’s emergence marks a significant milestone in the history of the institution, as she becomes the first female Provost of the College of Health Sciences, breaking a longstanding leadership barrier and opening a new chapter for women in academic leadership.

In a statement he issued on behalf of the association, Dr. Obohwemu described her emergence as a fitting recognition of her exceptional scholarship, leadership qualities, commitment to medical education and distinguished contributions to the health sciences.

The association said her achievement was particularly significant to the DUMSAA family because Professor Umuerri is not only an Honorary Member but, by virtue of her emergence, becomes a statutory Patron of the association.

DUMSAA also recalled Professor Umuerri’s participation as Guest Speaker at its 2025 Virtual Annual General Meeting, where her intellectual depth, compelling insights and vision for the advancement of health sciences left a strong impression on members of the alumni community.

According to the association, her appearance at the AGM now carries an even greater significance, having preceded her emergence into one of the most important academic leadership positions within Delta State University.

DUMSAA President, Dr. Obohwemu, said the association was not surprised by Professor Umuerri’s achievement, describing her as a woman whose brilliance, conviction and dedication to medical education had distinguished her over the years.

“It came as no surprise to us, therefore, when news broke of her emergence as the first female Provost in the history of the College of Health Sciences.
