Easter: Uba Sani urges Nigerians to unite in overcoming challenges

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani

Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani has urged Nigerians to remain united, despite their social, cultural and religious divisity in order to sustain the unity and development of the nation.

Sani, in his Easter message on Friday, said that Easter celebration is a solemn remembrance of the suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, pointing out that it is an enduring testament to sacrifice, redemption, and the triumph of hope over despair.

According to him, “it invites not only celebration, but also quiet reflection on the deeper meaning of faith, love, and the promise of renewal”, saying
“over the past forty days, the Lenten season has offered a pathway to spiritual introspection through prayer, fasting, and self-denial.”

“It has been a time to draw closer to God, to cultivate humility, and to renew commitment to lives marked by compassion, service, and moral clarity. The resurrection, which Easter proclaims, stands as a powerful assurance that even in the midst of trials, restoration is possible and hope remains alive”, he added.

The Governor explained that “this message carries profound relevance for us all. In times often shaped by uncertainty and division,” noting, ” Easter reminds us that peace can overcome discord, and reconciliation is always within reach.”

“It calls on us to rise above bitterness, to mend what is broken, and to embrace our shared humanity with sincerity and grace. This year’s observance of Lent coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, during which our Muslim brothers and sisters devoted themselves to fasting, prayer, and acts of charity, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr”, Sani stressed.

He remarked, “this convergence of sacred seasons is both meaningful and instructive. It reminds us that across our different faiths, we are united by enduring values: devotion to God, discipline, compassion, and a shared responsibility to uplift one another. Our beautiful and rich diversity in Kaduna State must remain a source of strength, not division. It calls us to a higher responsibility; to foster mutual respect, deepen understanding, and build enduring bonds of trust. The peace and progress we seek as a state depend on our collective commitment to coexistence and unity.”

The Governor further pointed out, “in recognition of the role of faith in shaping society, our administration continues to support initiatives that promote spiritual growth and inclusiveness. The restoration of Christian pilgrimage after over a decade reflects this commitment. This year, fifty pilgrims from Kaduna State undertook a sacred journey to Jordan and Israel during the Lenten season, allowing them to engage deeply with the spiritual significance of this period.”

He said, “We remain grateful to Almighty God for His protection over them, especially in a time of global uncertainty. Their safe return and exemplary conduct are a source of pride and a reminder that moral and spiritual investments yield lasting dividends for our society.”

He stressed, “as a government, we will continue to encourage efforts that strengthen ethical values and social harmony. We believe that a people grounded in faith and guided by conscience are better equipped to build peaceful, resilient, and prosperous communities.”

Sani continued: “the message of Easter also speaks to the essence of leadership and citizenship. The life of Jesus Christ exemplifies humility, sacrifice, and service: virtues that must guide all who hold positions of responsibility. Our administration remains committed to the ideals that will uplift the vulnerable, expand opportunities for our youth and women, and improve access to education, healthcare, and economic empowerment across our state.”

“As we look ahead, I urge all citizens to approach civic responsibilities with wisdom, restraint, and a commitment to the common good. Let us reject divisive tendencies and uphold the values of peace, respect, and shared purpose that bind us together. At this sacred time, I encourage our people to embrace the deeper meaning of Easter; not only in celebration, but in renewed dedication to lives of integrity, compassion, and service”, he added.
